FAO's portal for monitoring water productivity through open access to remotely sensed data, WaPOR (Water Productivity through Open access of Remotely sensed derived data) monitors and reports on water productivity in agriculture in Africa and Middle East. Provides open access to the water productivity database and its thousands of underlying mapping layers. It allows direct data queries, time series analysis, area statistics and data downloads of key variables associated with water and land productivity assessments. The portal services can be directly accessed through FAO's WaPOR APIs, which are gradually being published and documented through the site. Water productivity assessments and other intensive computer calculations are performed using Google Earth Engine. The current WaPOR database, which contains data related to biomass production, evapotranspiration, precipitation, land cover and agricultural land and water productivity in Africa and the Middle East, will be maintained and expanded, ensuring data availability uninterrupted since 2009. More higher resolution areas (30 m resolution) will be created for partner countries that lend themselves to different types of applications, such as monitoring the health of specific crops in fields, irrigation monitoring and scheduling with greater precision, among others.
